We are artists and parents of a 4-year-old Miłosz. In 2017, we jointly created the MaMoMi
performative installation for young children at Nowy Teatr in Warsaw. Tomek Bergmann
came up with a space, Iza Chlewińska with directing. Parts of the installation remained in our
apartment, and among them was a long tunnel, tied on one side, that is … such a modern
sack. Miłosz, from the very beginning, loved to go inside and drag it along the floor. Thanks
to Tomek's strong hands, sometimes he even was flying! The material is flexible and
naturally tightens the whole body, therefore the most natural position of Miłosz was the
embryonic position. Curled up in a ball he squealed with joy, closed tightly in a bag, which is
transparent, but only for him. He became invisible, seeing everything around. We thought
then that it was our small MaMoMi – a micro version of a super-safe place, reminiscent of the
mother’s womb.
One day Miłosz experienced an emotional crisis – he cried, shouted, could not calm down,
and we also could not help him. Then I asked him: DO YOU WANT TO GO INSIDE THE
BAG? At once, as with the magic spell, Miłosz marched quickly towards the rolled-up bag
(the bag takes up as much space as the small sheet). The floor road ride lasted a few
minutes and then we started talking normally. Since then the bag has been waiting quietly
among the bed sheets and bedding for a moment. Works reliably. It’s like a magic spell.
Sold out tickets and undue interest in the MaMoMi performative installation has convinced us
that people need equally sensory experiences as rest and tranquility. That is why we decided
to create sensory objects that will be in our home. We conduct research using a workshop
method, working with the body and mind, but we also consult our ideas with therapists and
psychologists. We believe that together we can create inspirational, abstract and close to
body sensory objects that can change the quality of our lives. We are guided by the idea of
strengthening ties, creating lasting relationships and living in harmony with each other.
